The race is on to see which country will take home the most medals in this year’s Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Atop the leaderboard after Sunday, day nine, is Team USA with a comfortable lead at 71 medals—19 of which are gold, dominating in swimming and gymnastics, and also winning in sports like cycling and rowing. The team added silver this weekend from Sha’Carri Richardson in the 100-m, and bronze from pommel horse internet sensation Stephen Nedoroscik.

China is next with 45 medals, matching the U.S. with 19 golds. Host France is in third place with 44 medals—including 12 golds, four earned by swimming phenom Léon Marchand. The U.S. and France have an edge—the two have the largest delegations in the 2024 Games, with 594 and 571 athletes competing across events, respectively.

Great Britain and Australia round off the top five countries, with 37 and 31 medals respectively.

But with so many events left to come, the race is very much wide open.

At the Summer Olympics, there are 329 medal events—157 of which are for men, 152 for women, and 20 mixed-gender events. Overall, there are close to 1,000 medals to be snagged by any of the 206 countries in the International Olympic Committee (IOC)—each of which will have at least one athlete in Paris this summer.

Over the 19 days of competition, around 10,500 athletes will compete for medals in 32 sports, and for the first time they will do so with gender parity—with the same number of male and female athletes.

Historically, Team USA has dominated the Summer Olympics, entering Paris with 1,070 gold medals and 2,667 medals overall. Next, the Soviet Union garnered 1,009 medals. Great Britain and the People’s Republic of China have 916 and 636 respectively. There were more than 60 countries entering these Olympics that had never earned an Olympic medal. And yet, all that could—and has already begun to—change this summer.

Here’s a running count of how many gold, silver, and bronze medals each country has won at the 2024 Paris Olympics so far:
